Disney Cruise Line workers who rode out the most powerful hurricane to ever hit the Northwest Bahamas on company's Castaway Cay are safe, the company reports.

Disney issued a statement saying its employees used a storm shelter "designed for these types of situations" on the island it uses as a stop for cruise passengers.

The response came after the sister of one staffer posted tweets that have since been deleted:

“My sister is stuck in the middle of a Cat 5 hurricane. We were told they would evacuate and they didn’t. Left them behind!! Why??,” Meg Green posted on Twitter, according to the Miami Herald.

In another tweet, she wrote: “Remember that time [Disney Cruises] left 97 employees on a tiny island in a Category [sic] 5 hurricane? I do.”

Disney said the shelter for employees on Castaway Cay "has restrooms, power and is well stocked with food and water."

Castaway Cay is near Abaco Island and just south of where as the eye of the 185 mph hurricane passed. The island experienced tropical storm force winds and possibly hurricane force gusts, forecasters said.

About 60 Disney Cruise Line crew members live and work full-time on Castaway Cay, according to the company's website.
