Severe Storms Hammer Oklahoma with Large Hail, Heavy Rain

Severe thunderstorms hit parts of the Plains on Sunday, bringing golf ball-sized hail and at least one tornado.

A severe thunderstorm with large hail cut a swath across Oklahoma City late in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, confirmed an EF0 tornado touched down briefly near Lake Arcadia, Oklahoma, just after 5 p.m. local time.

A funnel cloud was also seen about near Apache in southern Caddo County, NWS said.

The brief tornado near Arcadia is the first December tornado on record – records start in 1950 – in Oklahoma County, according to Dr. Greg Forbes, severe weather expert for The Weather Channel.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.
