Days of winter weather affected many of the Great Lakes states, dumping more than three feet of lake-effect snow in some areas.

The wintry precipitation hindered travel in western New York, where the Interstate 90 Thruway was closed for about three hours south of Buffalo Wednesday afternoon. Numerous weather-related accidents were reported east of Lake Erie this week, and officials urged motorists to be extra careful if they have to venture out onto the roads during the heavy snowfall.

On Thursday, some Cleveland-area schools were closed, while several districts in Pittsburgh were operating on a morning delay. All five of the Great Lakes reported lake-effect snow in at least one area to the east this week. Additional lake-effect snow was falling Thursday, which could lead to more trouble on the roads.
