Winter Storm Olympia, the 15th named storm of the 2015-16 season, blitzed the East Coast as a mid-February snow and ice storm that left roads dangerous for millions of residents.

The storm hit parts of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic, dumping snow and freezing rain in areas – some that don't see much winter weather on an annual basis. Monday morning was rough in North Carolina, where hundreds of crashes and spinouts were reported on the state's roads, and Interstate 95 North had to be closed for a few hours near Fayetteville. Tuesday morning, tens of thousands were without power in North Carolina and Virginia as heavy ice brought down trees and power lines.

The storm moved into the Northeast and New England on Tuesday, bringing more than a foot of snow to parts of western New York. The wintry weather led to a pileup in Pennsylvania and plenty more travel woes to the north.

Olympia was responsible for at least six deaths, all in accidents that occurred in Minnesota, Virginia and West Virginia.
