California Skiers Struggle To Find Snow At End Of Warmest Winter On Record (PHOTOS)

It should come as little surprise that California's ski resorts are struggling in the midst of the state's warmest winter on record.

But it's still sad to see the West Coast's skiers attempting to spend a day on the slopes, even when there isn't enough snow remaining to completely cover the mountains. Some resorts essentially have a narrow lane of snow left on some trails, while a handful of ski resorts have closed their doors for the season altogether, according to The Sacramento Bee. It might be a glimpse into the future, with long-term drought and warmer winters expected to become the norm.

The images at the top of this page were released at a time when California remains in the most severe drought the state has experienced since record-keeping began. The lack of snowfall is only expected to make matters worse, as the state will have a much smaller snowmelt in the summer months than usual.

The state's lawmakers have responded with a $1 billion drought relief package aimed at funding water recycling and desalination projects, among other goals.
