Tropical development is possible from the northwestern Caribbean Sea into the Gulf of Mexico later this week into next week. Parts of Florida and the Gulf Coast could see increased rainfall, regardless if development happens.

What we're watching: A broad area of low pressure is located from the western Caribbean Sea into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, according to the latest National Hurricane Center Outlook (NHC). It's producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity at this time.

When it might develop: The NHC says conditions could be favorable for some gradual development of this system late this week or weekend as it gradually shifts into the Gulf of Mexico.

While water temperatures are plenty warm for development, wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico could be one obstacle to either development of a tropical depression, or could also keep any system that forms from intensifying quickly.

What the U.S. Gulf Coast should know: Increased rainfall in Florida and along other parts of the Gulf Coast is one impact we will see by this weekend into next week, regardless of development.
