Photographer Liz Roll Documents Abandoned Restaurants and Bars

Empty liquor bottles still sit on the bar, and dusty wine glasses neatly line shelves on the wall. But there are no patrons at the empty southern New Jersey bar photographer Liz Roll visited. The scene is eerie and ghostly, like an old saloon.

The photographer has been documenting abandoned locations throughout the U.S. for years, and her latest compilation features shuttered restaurants and bars.

While some of the locations look as if they've just closed for the night, others look completely weathered, pink insulation hanging from the ceilings and crumbling drywall and bricks littering the floors, tables and chairs.

Among her most interesting images are shots of an abandoned supper club in central Virginia, which Roll said likely catered to African Americans during segregation. A tattered vintage hat sits on the counter, and handwritten signs can be seen behind the bar.
