Rare red sprites light up Tibet's night sky

Red sprites happen so quickly and so high in the atmosphere they’re rarely seen by the human eye, but extraordinary video captured them dancing over Tibet. High above thunderstorms, electrical charges excited the nitrogen in the upper atmosphere causing the red flashes that last mere milliseconds.
