The National Hurricane Center has circled the first area to watch of the season in the Atlantic basin.

Our attention is drawn to the yellow blob in the Bay of Campeche and southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

NHC says, "A broad area of low pressure could form over the Bay of Campeche later this week."

However, there is a very low chance of development over the next seven days before this potential disturbance moves inland over eastern Mexico this weekend.

Some of the computer models have been showing the remnant moisture and spin of Tropical Storm Cristina in the Eastern Pacific moving into the Bay Of Campeche Friday and into this weekend.

Bottom Line

There is no need for concern right now along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

This is essentially going to be a moisture surge along the western Gulf, which will bring locally heavy rain to eastern Mexico.

Rain chances will also be increasing across South Texas as Gulf moisture moves in this weekend.
