It’s that time of year again. Our meteorologists are hard at work tracking a “cold outbreak” expected to hit several parts of the U.S., from the Midwest to the Deep South. This new ushering in of the “coldest air of the season” reminds me of the cold snap that hit us in January earlier this year. Several inches of snow fell across almost the entire U.S., even in cities like New Orleans and Atlanta (yes, that still sounds like a southerner’s fever dream.)

The surprising amount of snow gave me an opportunity to make snow angels and watch my goldendoodle puppy lose his mind. But, I must admit, the weather wasn’t at all kind to my skin, including my lips. After much fun in the snow, my lips were left dry and chapped, which led me on a search to find the perfect lip moisturizer.

Needless to say, after an extensive search (and rigorous testing that left my bathroom counter looking like a science lab) I found the perfect pick that helped me lock in moisture, even in my sleep. And I’m still absolutely obsessed with how good it protects against harsh weather conditions.

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is my go-to lip moisturizer. It’s a Korean lip care giant that’s been available in the U.S. since 2017, but it’s only recently become popular on TikTok.

The mask is a thick balm-like mixture formulated with moisturizing oils and butters like shea butter and coconut oil. It’s also packed with antioxidants since it has a “Berry Mix Complex” made up from beneficial berries like raspberries and blueberries. It’s available in a variety of scents from Hot Cocoa to Peach Iced Tea.

At $24, it falls in the lower-level price range for lip sleeping masks. Some are priced a few dollars lower, yes, but I’ve seen some masks priced as high as $129.

The Laneige Lip Mask also comes with a separate applicator and applicator cover, which, of course, is really helpful because applying a lip mask with your fingers can get messy and leave your hands sticky.

My Honest Review

As previously mentioned, I purchased the Laneige Lip Mask after trying a couple of products that didn’t make an impact on my chapped lips at all. I also studied some of its 52,000 reviews before I decided the 4.6 star rated product was worth hitting the buy button for.

Initially, I was hesitant to reach for a skincare product with fragrance because my sensitive skin isn’t exactly a fan of products that are heavily scented. That’s why I usually opt for fragrance-free or free and clear products. But I was desperate for intense lip moisture. So, after much consideration, I finally bought the Gummy Bear flavored mask in the 0.70 oz jar on Sephora.com.

It was delivered to my doorstep overnight and I was ready to try it before the delivery man could walk off. When I unscrewed the light-purple colored jar, the gummy bear fragrance radiated out. For a moment, I was brought back to my childhood. The mask smelled like I had ripped open a Haribo packet of gummies. I honestly was impressed with how spot-on the fragrance was.

I was still pretty skeptical of how a gummy bear scented product could restore my chapped lips. But I figured it was only fair to still give the Laneige Lip Mask a shot since it’s received so much praise online.

“Not Too Loud”

When I dipped the applicator in the Laneige mask, I applied a thick layer across my lips. Immediately, I learned that a pea size of the mask really goes a long way.

I was also happy to learn that my top lip didn’t smell like a five-year-old girl’s lip gloss kit. The gummy bear fragrance doesn’t smell as strongly after it’s applied.

Even as a person who isn’t accustomed to heavy lip-balm fragrances, I wasn’t overwhelmed by the gummy bear smell. It’s just enough to offer some calming and relaxing sensory pleasure, especially right before bed.

And after a few hours, the fragrance didn’t irritate my skin which serves as confirmation that there isn’t a massive amount of fragrance in the Laneige mask.

“Restoration Power”

The Laneige Lip Mask is thick, almost gooey-like in texture. I’ve never been a restless sleeper. I don’t really move throughout the night, which means I wasn’t concerned about soiling my sheets or pillowcase with a thick product on my lips.

However, those who do move will be happy to hear that the Laneige mask isn’t greasy or sticky. I recently tested it out by applying a layer to my lips and giving my pillow a slight peck. Thankfully, my pillow remains stain-free!

The Laneige Lip Mask completely restored my chapped lips. After wearing the mask overnight for about eight hours, every part of me woke up refreshed, including my lips! They felt pretty moist, even though most of the mask had soaked in. It only took a Kleenex to wipe the remaining residue off.

About four applications and overnight wears later, my lips stopped peeling and were officially on the mend.

Today, after almost a year of consistent Laneige use, my lips are completely healed and softer than ever.

“Great Weather Protection”

One of my favorite parts about the Laneige Lip Mask is that it’s a great way to protect your lips from becoming dry and chapped during fall and winter weather conditions.

During the summer, I generally apply the Laneige mask on my lips a few times a week. However, when cold and dry weather hits, it becomes a part of my nightly routine. And for extra moisture throughout the day, I sometimes re-apply the mask in the morning or apply Laneige’s Lip Glowy Balm.

Earlier this year, Laneige helped protect my lips against cold weather. And it's still helping as cold winds begin to rush across the U.S. now.

Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase, so much so that I bought two more jars in different fragrances. The thickness of the product offers great coverage without leaving my lips weighed down or greasy, even during warm summer months. And the weather protection I receive from it is impeccable. This lip mask is undeniably perfect for the harsh weather we’re soon expected to face.
