'Omega Block' Pattern Ahead

A congested atmospheric pattern known as an "omega block" is expected to set up across the country by late this weekend. The jet stream will flow like the Greek letter omega from California to New York with a variety of weather effects, including an upside-down temperature pattern. Highs in the Midwest could be similar to temperatures in the South early next week. Cooler weather and even some May snow will nestle into the Rockies, while rainy or stormy weather will anchor into the Plains and Northeast on either side of the pattern. Spotty flooding may also be possible in the Plains or Northeast due to the sluggish nature of this pattern.
