When To See The Final Supermoon Of 2025

Most of us in the United States will have to bundle up before going outside to bask in the glow of the final supermoon of 2025. This early December full moon is the final in a trilogy of supermoons in the back half of the year, October and November each had one.

It’s not unusual for supermoons to happen in clusters throughout the year. They occur when the moon swings closer to Earth as it orbits around our planet. When that happens the moon can look as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year, according to NASA.

This week, you can start to see the supermoon on Wednesday night, but it will peak on Thursday just after sunset at 6:15 p.m. EST, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

The frigid temperatures at this time of year led the Mohawk tribe to call this supermoon the Cold Moon and it will live up to the moniker this year. Weather.com meteorologist Caitlin Kaiser says, "A swath of the country from the Southwest to the Northeast will have the best shot at seeing the supermoon in its full glory. Much of the Northwest, Northern Plains and Southeast will have thick cloud cover that will likely make sky-watching difficult. If you're one of the lucky ones who could get a clear view, remember to check your temperature forecast before you head out! A large portion of the country will be stuck below 40 degrees late week."
