Buffalo Bills Need Snow Shovelers Ahead Of Sunday's Game Against The New York Jets

If you need a few extra bucks and a good workout, the Bills have just the job for you this Saturday.

It might sound like a bulletin from years or even decades ago, especially with just 28% of the Lower 48 covered in snow, but the Buffalo Bills need help digging their stadium out of the heavy snow that has fallen in recent days.

The all-call, which went out midday Thursday, has requested that anyone 18 or older who has free time this Saturday can sign up to help shovel snow out of the 71,000-seat Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park ahead of Sunday's 4:25 p.m. EST home game against the New York Jets. The team provided a Google doc to sign up, and said selections will be based on availability.

What The Shovelers Will Get In Return

  • $20 per hour of work
  • Food and hot beverages
  • Highmark Stadium branded winter gloves for the first 500 people who show up
  • Some shovelers who are 21 or older will also receive a special adult-beverage-themed winter hat courtesy of the Bills and Bud Light
  • The ability to tell their kids and grandkids that they were one of the famed snow shovelers for what will likely be the final home game at Highmark Stadium before the Bills move into a new stadium — and I bet all of them will walk 15 miles, uphill both ways, in the snow to get there.

And those who don't have shovels available (is there anyone in Buffalo who doesn't own a snow shovel?) will have them provided by the Bills.

How We Got Here

It's been fairly warm across much of the country, so this might come as a surprise to many of our readers, but here's what senior meteorologist Jonathan Erdman had to say:

  • Following last Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, accumulating snow has fallen in Buffalo every day this week since Monday, totaling just over 8 inches at Buffalo-Niagara Airport north of Orchard Park.
  • They'll get about a 24-hour break from snow later today through Saturday, but more light snow moves in Saturday night, and we can't rule out some lingering snow showers at least into early Sunday.

If your favorite NFL team gave you a chance to shovel snow out of the stadium ahead of a big game, would you grab your shovel and sign up, or are you staying home and keeping warm? Let us know in the comments below.
