Melissa At Hurricane Strength, Rapid Intensification Soon

Melissa has officially reached hurricane intensity in the Caribbean Sea, and it is poised to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane by the end of the weekend. Heavy rain, flash flooding and landslides remain the main threats from the storm, especially for Haiti’s Tiburon Peninsula and eastern Jamaica, but the storm surge forecast for Jamaica has increased to 7 to 11 feet.
