Most of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season was storm after storm recurving well east of the United States, but that all changed when Hurricane Melissa exploded into a 185 mph Category 5 near Jamaica. Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba bore the brunt of feet of rainfall and ferocious winds. Melissa was the third Category 5 of the season adding to the tally started by Hurricane Erin and Hurricane Humberto. Humberto pulled Hurricane Imelda away from a South Carolina landfall in one bizarre twist of fate during the season. Here’s our wrap on the season.
