Here’s your weekend World Cup forecast

The World Cup has officially begun, and the forecast this weekend is a little lopsided as to who will see storms and who won’t.

Complicating things, a broad area of low pressure has formed over the southern Bay of Campeche that is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to Mexico and the Deep South as the low moves over land later this weekend.

Sunday outlook: Enter the rain and storms

While Saturday was largely sunny, Sunday’s weather is going to be more impacted by rain and storms. this is due to a cold front that will reach the East Coast and Deep South, bringing the threat of rain to Philadelphia and thunderstorms to Arlington and Houston.

Houston and Arlington both have retractable roofs, so rain isn't a concern for the matches for Germany vs Curacao and the Netherlands vs Japan.

Philadelphia, however, will be exposed to the rain, which is expected to start in the afternoon and carry on through kick-off, though it will cool temperatures from a high in the 90s to the 70s.

Monterrey’s match between Sweden and Tunisia is another potential trouble spot, as there will be scattered thunderstorms in the area during the midday and afternoon, potentially lasting into and maybe even through kick-off.

This is an open-air stadium, so fans should come prepared for rain and heat, as temperatures in the mid to upper 80s can be expected during the match.

We can all just envy Vancouver. The match starts at 12:00 am EDT (Sunday), which is 9:00 pm local time. Skies will be clear and temperatures will be in the upper 60s to low 70s.
