Buses provide some of the most reliable transportation, but commuters still have to wait for them. In some towns around the world, however, commuters can wait for buses in style — in some of the most interesting and colorful bus stops and shelters.

From a watermelon-shaped alcove in Japan to a hat-shaped roof in the Kyrgyz Republic, these bus stops are more than just shelters from the rain or heat during a 30-minute wait for a ride, they have become tourist attractions, as well.

The Unst bus stop in Scotland might be the most famous bus stop in the world. Located in the Shetland Isle of Unst, the U.K.’s most northern inhabited island, the bus stop is furnished like a quaint home, complete with comfy couch and a television and computer. Its decorated according to a theme, which changes every year. In 2015 (the bus shelter's 20th birthday), the theme was puffins, and the shelter was decked out in puffin curtains, framed puffin photographs, books on puffins, puffin tea towels and tablecloths and even a puffin calendar, according to Deadline News.
