Hidden in Iceland’s vast, barren volcanic landscape, the Apple Crater is known as Rauðaskál or “red bowl” in Icelandic. This colorful destination is just a few miles from the Gateway to Hell, an active volcano called Hekla that last erupted in 2000. Getting there isn’t easy, though. A heavy-duty 4x4 vehicle is required to navigate the rocky passageway.
